Hardin-Simmons University Offers Automatic $44,000 Scholarship for Texas Students
ABILENE, Texas, Aug. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --Hardin-Simmons University has announced that its Texas Scholarship, totaling $44,000 per student, is automatically awarded to graduating high school students from Texas who are granted general admission to HSU. The Texas Scholarship is available to public, private, and home-school graduates who reside in Texas, and will be awarded automatically, unless a student qualifies for a higher academic scholarship.
Texas scholarship recipients may receive up to $11,000 per year for four years. HSU students who receive the scholarship will then pay tuition, room & board at approximately the same annual costs as students who attend large public Texas universities at in-state tuition rates. (Previously, the scholarship was called the Big Country Scholarship and available to only students who lived in the Abilene region.)
"Several years ago, Hardin-Simmons University launched the Big Country scholarship to provide affordable private education for students in the Abilene area who had a deep desire to pursue a college degree, but might not otherwise have the funds," said HSU President, Eric Bruntmyer. "With the rising cost of higher education, we realized the time was right for us to expand the scholarship statewide and automatically apply it to students accepted to HSU."
During the 2016-2017 school year, 57 students accepted the Big Country Scholarship. For the 2017-2018 school year, at the time of this release, 231 students have already accepted the new Texas Scholarship.
Over 2,200 students will be enrolled at Hardin-Simmons University for the fall 2017 semester. The university maintains a student to faculty ratio of 12:1 to ensure that each student at HSU receives individualized attention and allows students to develop meaningful relationships with professors.
