Hardin-Simmons University Reduces Online Master's Degree Costs by One-Third

ABILENE, Texas, Feb. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Hardin-Simmons University announced today that it was reducing the cost per credit hour from $750 to $495 for its online Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation (KSPR) degrees effective for the Fall 2018 semester. Additionally, the cost per hour for HSU's online RN to BSN is dropping to $400, from $420 per hour previously.

HSU will also add two online graduate degree programs, a Master of Arts in Management and a Master of Science in Information Science (MSIS), for the fall 2018 semester at the same credit hour cost.

The new, lower costs make these Hardin-Simmons programs a substantially greater value than programs at other similar private universities, and the costs are competitive with online graduate programs from many public universities. The reduction is another step in Hardin-Simmons' efforts to reduce costs for students while maintaining a very high-quality educational environment. In 2017, HSU announced that it was automatically awarding a $48,000 Texas Scholarship to all undergraduate students from Texas who are granted general admission to HSU, which made the annual cost to attend HSU similar to the cost of attending many public Texas universities.

"Online courses reduce some of our expenses, so we decided to pass those savings on to students. We want working moms and dads, adults, HSU alums, and new HSU students to be able to access a high-quality, private, faith-based education at a cost they can afford," said Dr. Scott Hamm, Director of Online Education.

Students in the MBA and MA in Management programs may complete their degree in one calendar year, fall, spring, and summer, though they may choose to proceed at a slower pace. The MBA program is designed for undergraduate business majors to extend their education, and the MA in Management degree is designed to teach modern business practices to students with degrees in fields other than business. Through the EAGL program (Early Admission to Graduate Learning), HSU undergraduate business students can take up to six hours of graduate courses that count toward both bachelor's degree and master's degree requirements.

The MSIS program is designed to equip students with the analytical and technical skills to address business needs and to develop complex information systems using mainstream and emerging technologies.

The KSPR degree prepares graduates for careers in the areas of wellness, sport performance enhancement, strength and conditioning, health, fitness and recreation, facilities and programs, athletic administration, sport marketing, recreation, professional sport management, and coaching.
