Hardwork and Dedication Nets Team FXPRIMUS Aylezo a Double Podium

As race weekends come and go, this one particularly will be remembered for a while yet by Team FXPRIMUS Aylezo as they finished the Blancpain Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Series rounds 9 & 10 on the podium in Shanghai. One pole position and two second place finishes.

Afiq echoed the feel good sentiment in the camp, "It was one of the best weekends so far," he said after the race on Sunday. "All the elements were perfect, everyone is happy and it was the best race of the season for me," he continued with a huge smile.

The weekend started out well with perfect racing weather greeting the crew and drivers as they arrived at the circuit on Wednesday for set-up. Then during the practice sessions, the team had some issues with a cracked panel under the car. The crew worked swiftly to change it before the official practice session on Friday.

Zen was unable to get in much practice time as Afiq was tasked with car set-up. The team managed to find a good set-up enabling Afiq to claim pole position for race one. Zen once again was unlucky as he got stuck in traffic, unable to get a clear lap in during his session, setting the ninth fastest time.

Race One with Afiq behind the wheel started off well, he managed to claim the lead and then pulled a 12 second gap by the pit-stop session. Then as Zen took over the car, the team looked to be in a great position for the win, until disaster struck, leaving Zen having to stop and reboot the car on turn three.

"Afiq passed the car to me in the lead with a good gap, but as I got in the car, I saw the engine error light turn on. Usually it means two things, either I reset it or it will go away by itself and since I saw the 5 second 'ready-to-go' sign I told myself 'Ok, let's not reset so I won't lose any time' and took a risk," said Zen after the race.

The gamble did not pay off but Zen's quick thinking allowed the team the chance to rejoin the race and finish in third.

But as the team went on the podium, there was a bit of confusion as they were told that because of penalties, Team FXPRIMUS Aylezo was awarded the win.

"We were a little confused when they told us that we were in fact second, since one of the teams was excluded from the win. Then when we got to the podium, they said that Dilantha's team was penalised with a 30 second time added penalty which pushed us up to first. It was not how we wanted our first win to be."

"Then later the next day, the organisers called me to tell me that the stewards decided to overturn their earlier decision after seeing added evidence from Dilango Racing, reinstating the win to Dilantha and his team. Fair is fair and second is a good place to build from as it was a hard fought finish," concluded Zen.

On Sunday, Race Two was started off by Zen, from ninth position. As the lights turned green, his determined drive saw him overtake four cars halfway through the first lap. As the race went on and the tires wore off, Zen lost two spots before handing the car over to Afiq.

Afiq took over, setting a blistering pace with the fresh tires, picking off the competition one-by-one, coming in second at the chequered flag. An outstanding drive that showed his steely resolve and dedication, a drive of champions.

"It was a fantastic race, Zen did a fantastic job during the first stint and I am so happy now I just can't describe the feeling. We are all looking forward to a great home race," ended Afiq.

Team FXPRIMUS Aylezo will now head home for the season finale at the Sepang International Circuit this November.
