
NORRIDGE, Ill., Sept. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In support of September Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Harlem Irving Plaza (HIP) will donate 10% of its September gift card sales to Curesearch, an organization that funds and supports innovative childhood cancer research with measureable results.
For October, the center will shift gears and focus on breast cancer awareness. It has chosen The Breast Cancer Research Foundation to receive 10% of October gift card sales. The Foundation's mission is to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime by providing critical funding for innovative clinical and translational research at leading medical centers worldwide.
September and October donations will range from $7,000 to $10,000 depending on the income from the of gift card purchases. The HIP encourages shoppers to give the gift of life over the next couple of months to help combat this terrible disease.
"Childhood cancer and breast cancer has impacted the Harlem Irving Management Team personally over the past few years and we wanted to make a difference in finding a cure for both," said Edan Gelt, Corporate Marketing Director for Harlem Irving Companies. "We did our research on both organizations and know that the money raised will have great strides in finding a cure. With 7 children dying a day from childhood cancer and one woman every 13 minutes from breast cancer, we cannot stand by and do nothing – it is our corporate and personal responsibility," she said.
Harlem Irving Plaza (HIP), built in 1956 is one of the last privately owned shopping centers in Illinois and is dedicated to the community it serves.
