Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, was awarded a one-year, $11 million contract by the U.S. Air National Guard to provide IT system standardization and upgrades at nine initial sites. These system upgrades will ensure mission readiness for the Air National Guard when called upon for homeland defense and disaster response.

The ANG has both a federal and state mission. The Guard's federal mission is to maintain well-trained, well-equipped units available for prompt mobilization during war and provide assistance during national emergencies (such as natural disasters or civil disturbances). When Guard units are not mobilized or under federal control, they report to the governor of their respective state, territory, or district, providing for protection of life and property, and preservation of peace, order and public safety.
