Haynes and Boone Houston Welcomes Former U.S. Ambassador Eduardo Aguirre
HOUSTON, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Eduardo Aguirre, the former U.S. ambassador to Spain and Andorra, has joined Haynes and Boone, LLP in Houston as a senior advisor, providing insight to the firm on a wide range of topics including a special focus on international business and strategic issues in Spain, Latin America and the Caribbean, and U.S. inbound investment, banking and finance, energy and immigration.

Aguirre's 40-year professional career includes significant contributions in banking, government service and the boardroom. His experience includes eight years of service in the administration of President George W. Bush in senate-confirmed senior-level executive positions, including director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and acting-chairman, vice chairman, and chief operating officer of the Export-Import Bank of the United States.
During his tenure as the U.S. ambassador to Spain and Andorra, Aguirre was actively engaged in a numerous bilateral issues such as foreign investment, protection of property rights and inter-governmental cooperation arrangements.
Prior to his government service, Aguirre's career focused on banking for 34 years, and he retired as president of the global division of Bank of America's International Private Bank. He is a graduate of the American Bankers Association's National Commercial Lending Graduate School, and is a Certified Commercial Lender.
Aguirre holds honorary doctor "honoris causa" degrees from the University of Connecticut in Stoors, Conn.; University of Houston in Houston, Texas; and Universidad Tecnologica de Santiago in the Dominican Republic. He is also an honorary professor at Beijing Polytechnic University and the Central University for Nationalities in Beijing, China.
