NEWTON, Mass., May 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- H.C. Starck's innovative niobium sheet material makes it easy to deep draw and shape crucibles in the production of synthetic diamonds. Abrasive tools for non-ferrous and non-metallic materials utilize synthetic diamonds as tool components in oil and gas exploration, mining, construction, transportation, and electronics.
Visit H.C. Starck at INTERTECH 2015 in Indianapolis during May 19-20 to discuss the advantages of H.C. Starck's niobium for synthetic diamonds. We invite you to attend H.C. Starck's technical presentation at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19 given by Dr. Marc Abouaf, Director of R&D, and co-authored by Dr. Abhishek Bhattacharyya, Research Engineer, regarding the "Effects of Silicon Addition on Drawability of Niobium Sheet."
"H.C. Starck is positioned as a premier supplier for the rapid growth in the synthetic diamond industry caused by a surge in oil and gas drilling and the deployment of advanced drilling techniques. H.C. Starck's R&D engineers made significant improvements to our niobium material addressing issues inherent to the manufacture of crucibles for synthetic diamonds, including the deep draw challenges and quality requirements. H.C. Starck is committed to serving the synthetic diamond industry with our high performance materials solutions," said Dmitry Shashkov, Member of H.C. Starck's Executive Board and Head of the Fabricated Products Division.
The niobium crucibles are produced from sheet material by deep drawing. Certain applications require block-like synthetic diamonds, which are produced by placing a carbonaceous material in the niobium crucible and subjecting it to a combination of high pressure and high temperature (HPHT).The quality and surface finish of these crucibles is critical to the final quality of the synthetic diamonds when applied in machining, cutting, thermal management, magnetometry, acoustics, drilling, optical (laser, IR, RF), detectors in high energy physics, waste water treatment and ozone generators applications.
