HealthPlus Amerigroup Gives $20,000 to Improve Children's Lives

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Feb. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Amerigroup, a wholly owned subsidiary of WellPoint, Inc., today announced its subsidiary HealthPlus, an Amerigroup Company, granted $20,000 to the Claudio Reyna Foundation to help provide soccer training, tutoring and mentoring to underserved youth, primarily in the urban regions of New York and New Jersey.

The funds will be used to provide coaches, children's uniforms and equipment, and will help support special events including the New York Film and Entertainment Soccer Tournament and the Steve Nash Foundation's Showdown in Chinatown.

Recently, HealthPlus Amerigroup teamed with the Claudio Reyna Foundation to distribute coats in Brooklyn, New York. More than 1,500 coats were distributed to individuals who were impacted by Hurricane Sandy last fall. The recipients were also were able to meet Reyna, a former professional soccer player in Europe and New York who represented the United States in four World Cup tournaments and two Olympic appearances.
