Healthy Schools And Florida Department Of Health To Hold Flu Vaccination Clinics In Santa Rosa County In November
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Nov. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Healthy Schools LLC, the nation's largest provider of in-school flu vaccinations, today announced that it plans to hold walk-in flu vaccination clinics for area students, their parents and any non-school age siblings (at least 6 months of age) at multiple locations throughout Santa Rosa County in Florida. The clinics are being planned and held in conjunction with the Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County.
"We have received many inquiries from parents who are concerned about the availability of flu vaccinations," said April Pretz, RN and Healthy Schools Regional Hub Manager. "These parents have requested that more flu vaccinations be made available. In response, Healthy Schools and the Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County are planning to hold walk-in flu vaccination clinics at various times and locations this month."
The clinics will be run by clinical staff from both Healthy Schools and the Department of Health. Vaccines are available on a first come, first service basis. Parents and caregivers planning to attend with their students should bring ID and insurance information. The time and location for the walk-in flu clinics are as follows:
- Midway Clinic: 5840 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Tuesday, Nov. 13, 7 am – 7 pm ET
- Milton Clinic: 5527 Stewart Street, Wednesday, Nov. 14, 7 am – 7 pm ET
- Jay Clinic: 14122 Alabama Street (behind Jay Hospital), Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2 – 7 pm ET
Since 2014, Healthy Schools has administered tens of thousands of flu shots to children in Santa Rosa County under an agreement with the County Health Department. Offering flu vaccines free of charge has been a critical part of the county's overall goal of improving health and protecting children and the community from potentially lethal outbreaks of flu. According to the Centers for Disease Control, more children died from flu last season than ever before, and 80 percent of those who died had not received a flu shot.
According to a recent Harris Poll commissioned by the company, 54 percent of parents wish it was easier to get their children vaccinated for flu, and 66 percent of parents said it's much more likely that they'd get their child vaccinated for flu if they could get it at school.
"Healthy Schools administers flu vaccines to children with parental consent in conjunction with state and county health departments and school districts," continued Pretz. "Offering flu vaccines at no cost to the parent or school is a critical part of improving pediatric health and protecting children and the community from potentially lethal outbreaks of flu."
