HUDSON, Mass., April 16, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Heartland Water Technology, Inc., a global technology company that develops products to solve some of the world's most challenging waste water problems, has hired water industry veteran Ricardo Bernal. Ricardo assumes the role of Senior Vice President Strategy and GM Latin America.
"While Heartland can treat almost any challenging waste water, our initial focus in Latin America will be on landfill leachate," said Earl Jones, Heartland's CEO. "Environmentally sustainable management of landfill leachate is increasing rapidly across Latin America. Sewage treatment plants in Latin America, just as in the US and around the world, are refusing to accept landfill leachate as it causes a myriad of problems with the treatment works. Heartland provides a proven solution for onsite leachate management."
Heartland's cogeneration solution, called CoVAP, allows landfills to maximize the value of their biogas by using the biogas to make electricity with engines or turbines, and taking the exhaust heat into the Heartland Concentrator as the thermal energy source for evaporating leachate.
Says Mr. Bernal, "As a Colombian, I understand the unique challenges, as well as the huge opportunity, of this region. Heartland's technology is rugged, straightforward to operate, and delivers very low total cost-to-treat. These are important selling points for the Latin American market. Heartland's CoVAP solution is a particularly important solution for Latin America, providing renewable energy and environmentally sustainable leachate management."
Mr. Bernal joins Heartland from Jacobs' O&M group where he was responsible for industrial water business development worldwide. Prior to Jacobs, he held positions in business development and project development domestically and internationally for Abengoa Water and GE Water. Jones commented, "We are fortunate to have someone with Ricardo's depth and breadth in the water industry joining the Heartland team. Ricardo is uniquely qualified to develop Heartland's strategy as we enter new markets and to help our customers in Latin America meet their water treatment challenges."
