ATLANTA and COLUMBUS, Ga., July 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Fun Academy™ Motion Pictures, an innovator in educational entertainment for digital cinemas, today announced screen legend Helena Bonham Carter will lend her vocal talents to the upcoming animated feature film Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero, slated to premiere theatrically in April of 2018.
Helena Bonham Carter's name is synonymous with quality, from her first role in 1985's A Room with a View to her BAFTA-winning performance in The King's Speech in 2010. Her appearances as the Fairy Godmother in Disney's live action Cinderella, the villainous Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter film series and the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland have endeared her to a new generation of family audiences. In addition to her many live action credits, she has also voiced lead characters in award-winning animated films The Corpse Bride and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
Bonham Carter will voice the character of Margaret Conroy, sister of World War I doughboy Robert Conroy whose dog – Sgt. Stubby – became the most decorated canine soldier of WWI. Throughout the war, Margaret follows her brother's exploits from his letters and newspaper articles featuring his heroic little dog.
"I'm thrilled to be involved in Sgt. Stubby, a film that cannot fail to capture and touch the hearts of children about the most incredible courage of an incredible dog, whilst also introducing them to the all-important piece of history that was the 1st World War," says Bonham Carter.
This amazing true story of a stray from Connecticut who found himself in the trenches of World War I France focuses on the deep bond forged between a young American Doughboy and his unlikely canine friend. Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero will be the first animated family film to tell this incredible story for young audiences and has been selected as an official project of the United States World War I Centennial Commission.
Executive Producer Richard Lanni: "Helena Bonham Carter's voice is perfect for the role of Margaret, our guide to a very real and puzzling past. As an artist and icon – regardless of genre or period – there is no greater presence than Ms. Bonham Carter in Hollywood today."
