Helix Steel Direct Tension Method Published By ASTM
SYDNEY, Feb. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Journal of Testing and Evaluation recently published "The Measurement of Average Tensile Force for Individual Steel Fiber using New Direct Tension Test". An integral part of this publication is the acceptance of the groundbreaking methodology of Direct Tension testing for concrete, which was developed by Helix Steel. This method provides for the direct comparison of tensile properties of concrete composites to traditional rebar reinforcement with unprecedented consistency.
Helix Steel entered the market nearly two decades ago using industry standard beam tests (ASTM C1609) as its baseline. However, Helix Steel Founder Luke Pinkerton recognized early on that the market required more relevant information about how Twisted Steel Micro Reinforcement (TSMR) performed in concrete. The patented test method is the first to overcome the limitations of prior methods. It simultaneously enables engineers to determine first crack and post crack tensile strength as well as to measure the tensile modulus of elasticity of fiber reinforced concrete. This unique approach to both testing and data analysis greatly reduces the variability of results thereby solving a problem that has plagued concrete testing methods in general due to small specimen sizes and inconsistencies of materials.
