Help The National Family Partnership Select Schools to Win $20,000 in Prizes to Support Drug Prevention Efforts
Your vote can help families and schools curb the opioid epidemic
MIAMI, Nov. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Families and Schools across America got creative during Red Ribbon Week (October 23-31) for the purpose of educating youth about the importance of a drug-free lifestyle, as part of the National Red Ribbon Photo Contest. The contest comes at a pivotal time in our nation's history with approximately 74,000 American lives lost in 2017 to drug overdose – more deaths than from gun violence or vehicle crashes. Now, families and schools need your votes for a chance to win an iPad for themselves and $1,000 for a K-12 school, courtesy of contest sponsors the National Family Partnership, founders and organizers of the National Red Ribbon Campaign, and The Drug Enforcement Administration.
To enter the National Red Ribbon Photo Contest, families decorated the front of their homes (front door, mailbox or fence) and schools decorated their campuses with a double-looped red ribbon and the words of this year's theme: Life Is Your Journey. Travel Drug Free and then uploaded photos of their decorations to RedRibbon.org/contest.
"Red Ribbon Week and the photo contest share a serious message that is best heard when we are having fun and interacting with others," said Peggy Sapp, President of the National Family Partnership. "Red Ribbon educates kids and models the importance of a drug-free lifestyle. Is it as simple as wearing red and your kids won't use drugs? No. However, communicating with the children in your life about what it means to take care of your body and mind – and expressing clear disapproval of drug use – can absolutely make a difference."
10 winners (one in each of the 5 regions in both the home and school category) with the most votes will win an iPad for themselves and $1,000 for a K-12 school. To vote, visit www.redribbon.org/contest/vote. You may vote for your favorite entries once every 24 hour period through November 16th.
10 additional winners (5 in both home and school categories) will receive judges awards (an iPad for themselves and $1,000 for a K-12 school) for creativity, best use of the theme, most neighborhood/community involvement and more.
