#HerOwnBoss: Celebrating America's Women-owned Small Businesses

WASHINGTON, April 29, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Small businesses have long been an important foundation for regional economies by producing necessary goods and services, job opportunities and reinvesting in their communities. According to research from the NWBC – women-led and women-owned small businesses have seen a surge in recent years – estimated at 1200 new businesses launched per day.

National Small Business Week will be from May 4^th-8^th, 2015 and in celebration, the NWBC is partnering with the SBA to highlight the impact of these outstanding entrepreneurs and small business owners with a focus on women entrepreneurs. The NWBC will be sharing a series of curated content highlighting resources and stories, along with new features for the #HerOwnBoss project online.

According to the SBA, "Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America's entrepreneurs and small business owners. More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year."

"We found in our research that women are launching businesses at two times the rate of the national average, yet they are doing it with up to six times less capital than men," said Amanda Brown, Executive Director of the NWBC. "It's important to highlight and celebrate these important accomplishments but also raise awareness about how we can further support and sustain women's entrepreneurial ambitions."
