ACCRA, Ghana and MUMBAI, India and CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Hexagon Nutrition Limited today launched VIT A+, a stable vitamin A palmitate formulation for large-scale food fortification, at the Micronutrient Forum Global Conference in Accra. Previously known as PFH-VAP when it was being developed by Particles for Humanity, VIT A+ is being commercialized by Hexagon Nutrition for food fortification applications across Africa.
Vitamin A deficiency remains one of Africa's most persistent public health challenges. Although mandatory fortification programs exist across much of the continent, vitamin A can degrade during storage, distribution, and cooking under challenging environmental conditions. As a result, some of the vitamin A added during manufacturing may not ultimately reach consumers.
VIT A+ is designed to address this challenge. The formulation uses a proven encapsulation material that protects vitamin A during storage and cooking, enabling more of the vitamin A that manufacturers add to food to remain available at the point of consumption. VIT A+ can be incorporated into products such as bouillon, wheat flour, and sugar using existing fortification processes, requiring no new equipment or manufacturing infrastructure.
The commercial launch follows the successful completion of commercial-scale process validation and manufacturing transfer to Hexagon Nutrition. Conducted in India, the validation campaign demonstrated that VIT A+ can be produced consistently at commercial scale while maintaining the key product attributes established during development. Each batch produces enough VIT A+ to fortify approximately 600 million servings of food, helping support cost-effective supply and expanded access in regions where vitamin A deficiency remains high.
