(AKSM) is proud to announce that it performed the first high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) procedures today at Central Ohio Urology Group's main campus in Gahanna's Tech Corridor.
HIFU is an outpatient procedure where sound waves are utilized for ablation of prostate tissue. It is an excellent alternative for Prostate cancer and BPH patients who are looking for an advanced treatment modality that offers an enhanced quality of life over other prostate treatments. "HIFU allows us to target specific prostate tissue for ablation (removal of body tissue) in a single, outpatient treatment, while minimizing side effects like incontinence and erectile dysfunction," says Dr. Rashmi Patel.
Dr. Patel and Dr. Roy Brown performed the procedure on each of their respective patients. Dr. Brown and Dr. Patel have been performing HIFU successfully overseas for a combined 10 years.
