Highest NAHRO Honor Awarded to HUD Official
WASHINGTON, Oct. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Jane C.W. Vincent was named the 2013 recipient of the prestigious M. Justin Herman Memorial Award, the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials' (NAHRO) highest honor, last weekend at the NAHRO National Conference in Cleveland, Ohio.
The M. Justin Herman Memorial Award is given annually to a NAHRO member who has made outstanding contributions to the quality of life through service in the field of housing or community development. Established in 1975, the award recognizes the standard of excellence M. Justin Herman brought to the San Francisco Housing Authority and housing and community development at large.
"Jane's accomplishments inside and outside of NAHRO are a reflection of her tireless work as an advocate and champion for the low-income housing and real estate industries," said Saul Ramirez, Jr., NAHRO Chief Executive Officer. "Most recently appointed by President Obama to oversee all activities administered by HUD in Region III, she has distinguished herself among colleagues as an innovator, leader and educator in our industry."
Prior to joining HUD, Vincent served as senior vice president for development for the Delaware Community Foundation; president for The Vincent Group; vice president for Real Estate Strategies, Inc.; director for the Department of Real Estate and Housing in the City of Wilmington, Delaware, and acting chief of program development for the New Castle County Department of Community Development and Housing.
During her career, she has worked to promote sustainable communities, fair housing and urban revitalization while also improving the quality of life for public housing and multifamily residents. In her current role as HUD Regional Administrator for Region III, Vincent is responsible for the oversight of a $47.3 billion portfolio of programs and services throughout Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Vincent's contributions to NAHRO have been great. In addition to serving as a member of the Board of Governors and vice president of the International Research and Global Exchange, she was a NAHRO representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Council from 2006-2009. In 2010, the association honored Vincent by recognizing her as a NAHRO Fellow.
