Hilliard Calls On GM To Extend Fund Deadline By 12 Months
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, Nov. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Bob Hilliard, national co-lead counsel with primary responsibility for the personal injury and wrongful death cases and the attorney for Jean Averill's family, a Connecticut woman whose 2003 death was covered up by GM calls on GM and Ken Feinberg to extend the deadline for applying for compensation into the Feinberg fund by at least 12 months.

The deadline to submit personal injury and wrongful death claims to the GM Compensation Fund is December 31, 2014.
Hilliard states, "Why not? To shut the fund down next month assures only one thing: no justice for many victims."
"How many more Averill families are out there? Innocent victims of GM's criminal conduct with absolutely no knowledge that their loved one was killed or injured solely because of GM's conduct."
"Now is not the time for GM to listen to the company's bean-counters and try and save money by shutting the Fund down."
"Until GM fully commits to leaving no stone unturned in finding every single victim of this tragedy, it will wear this badge of shame. "
"This is especially true given that GM intends to assert a litigation bankruptcy defense to all pre-09' accidents. The Fund may be the only available hope for many of GM's dead and injured victims."
"It is a sad day in America when the term 'body count' refers not to a war but to a car company."
"As late as last week we learned GM was not forthright with the US Congress. We learned that Tony Valukas who Mary Barra touted as given complete autonomy to 'follow the evidence...wherever it leads'---at GM's request, left out a key piece of 'smoking gun' evidence: GM purchased 500,000 ignition switches 2 months before notifying NHTSA."
