Historic Nevada Mill Transformed into a Sustainable Estate Distillery
Bently Heritage Estate Distillery uses grains grown on Bently Ranch and imported stills
MINDEN, Nev., Jan. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bently Heritage Estate Distillery officially opens in early 2019. The distillery's new home is the LEED Gold certified Minden Flour Mill and Creamery buildings. The century-old Minden Flour Mill is a local landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Owners Christopher and Camille Bently have restored the historic building to state-of-the-art standards, creating a landmark which will be a source of pride for Minden, Carson Valley, and all of Nevada.
Christopher Bently grew up in Minden, and remembers riding his bike past the old flour mill when he was a boy. "As a kid I played inside the Flour Mill and Creamery buildings. These structures are part of the heart and soul of our small town and I want to safeguard that history," he enthuses. Additionally, Christopher says, "I have one simple passion: to make the best American spirits possible, from gins and vodkas to single-malt whiskies, with most of the components sourced from our ranch."
The Bentlys have a dedication to building renovation and historic preservation. The restored Farmers Bank in Minden serves as the flagship office for their companies and won LEED Platinum Certification in 2017.
The new distillery will use sustainably-produced grains from its sister company, Bently Ranch, which is located outside the town of Minden. Winter rye, oats, wheat, corn, and barley will be milled on-site and malted in-house on the malting floor. The Mill Building will create single-malt whisky using handmade Forsyths pot stills imported from Scotland. The Creamery Building will distill vodka and gin, using Carl pot stills imported from Germany. Bently Heritage Estate Distillery has already begun the process of oak barrel aging for their single-malt whisky and bourbon.
Spirits industry veteran Jeff Hodson is the company's director of sales and will be in charge of launching Bently Heritage Estate Distillery's Juniper Grove American Dry Gin and Source One Vodka. Hodson and his sales team will initially target the Nevada, California, and Arizona markets; they plan to be nationally distributed within the next few years. Breakthru Beverage Nevada has been selected as the Nevada distributor. Young's Market Company has been selected as the California and Arizona distributor. Source One Vodka will retail for approximately $32-34. Source One Vodka Rested in Sherry Oak Casks will retail for approximately $36-38. Juniper Grove American Dry Gin will retail for approximately $38-40. "This brand launch is the most exciting I have ever been involved with during my career," says Hodson.
