Historic Strasburg Rail Road Launches New Attraction
Vintage Pinball Train - The Ultimate Game Experience
STRASBURG, Pa., July 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Calling all Pinball Wizards. Strasburg Rail Road, a leading family destination in Pennsylvania, announces a blast from the past with its newest train ride – The Pinball Pendolino Train. Furnished with vintage pinball machines, the sounds of pinging and dinging ringing out, the vintage Pinball Pendolino offers a new challenge for players as the train taunts them with her own unpredictable tilt.
Housed inside an authentically restored wooden passenger car, the Pinball train will feature 12 vintage pinball machines, allowing passengers to test their skill (and luck) maneuvering the machine as the massive steam train chugs to Paradise, PA, and back. Each player will have access to one machine throughout the duration of the 45-minute trip with seating available for one guest to accompany the player. Capacity on the Pinball Car is limited to 24. Tickets for the Pinball Pendolino start at $18. Pinball Player and Guest Tickets start at $33. Ticket options include adding a snack and beverage choice for an additional charge. The train schedule and tickets are available here.
The vintage pinball machines come from Steve Zuckerman, Pinball collector and co-owner of Silver Ball Museum Arcade in Asbury Park, NJ. The museum has gained national attention for its impressive collection of more than 150 vintage pinball machines from the 1960's and 70's.
Pendolino is Italian for tilting train. The idea of a tilting train became popular in the 1960s and 1970s when various rail operators, impressed by the high-speed rail services being introduced in France and Japan, wondered how they could similarly speed up travel without building a dedicated parallel rail network (as those two countries were doing). By tilting, the train could go around curves designed for slower trains at higher speeds without causing undue discomfort to passengers.
Strasburg Rail Road is home to museum quality, working, turn-of-the century steam locomotives, freight cars, dining cars, private cars and one of the largest fleets of historic wooden passenger cars in the world. Founded in 1832, Strasburg Rail Road also holds the unique distinction as being America's oldest short-line railroad. The 45-minute train ride departs daily from Strasburg station.
