History Colorado to honor excellence in Colorado archaeology and historic preservation at annual awards ceremony Feb. 4
Lt. Governor Joe Garcia to present Governor's Award for Historic Preservation
DENVER, Jan. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- History Colorado will honor outstanding individuals and communities who are preserving Colorado's diverse past at the 29th Annual Stephen H. Hart Awards for Historic Preservation ceremony on Feb. 4 at the History Colorado Center in Denver.
From the esteemed group of nominations, one project is selected to receive the Governor's Award for Historic Preservation. This year Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia will present the Governor's Award to Boulder County staff, who worked tirelessly to protect historic resources in the midst of natural disasters over the last several years. "No one demanded that Boulder County look out for its historic places," says Ed Nichols, History Colorado President and CEO. "On its own initiative, the County put historic properties as a priority during disaster response."
In addition to the Governor's Award, five groups or individuals will be honored for their outstanding work through the History Colorado President's Award, the Stephen H. Hart Awards and the Hart Archaeology Award. The awards are named for Stephen H. Hart, Colorado's first State Historic Preservation Officer.
