McCourt's commitment also includes a partnership with Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy to create a nationwide model for criminal justice reform
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Homeboy Industries and Frank McCourt, Civic Entrepreneur and Executive Chairman of McCourt Partners, have announced a $100 million fundraising campaign to support the development of the Fr. Gregory Boyle Center for Radical Kinship — a major expansion of Homeboy's campus and the centerpiece of Hope Village, a visionary initiative reimagining reentry in Los Angeles. The new Center will significantly expand Homeboy Industries' capacity to deliver vital healing and wraparound services to thousands of Angelenos each year. McCourt is co-chairing the campaign committee and has pledged the first $10 million to launch the effort.
Hope Village reimagines the neighborhood surrounding Men's Central Jail, Homeboy Industries' current campus, and The California Endowment's Center for Healthy Communities. The vision—developed by Homeboy Founder Fr. Greg Boyle and Dr. Robert Ross, recently retired CEO of The California Endowment—calls for replacing outdated infrastructure and vacant lots with a vibrant, integrated community rooted in healing and designed to serve Los Angeles' most marginalized populations.
"Hope Village, and Homeboy, embody the values of kinship, resilience, and community," said Frank McCourt. "Now more than ever, we need to empower organizations that are investing in human potential, unlocking opportunities, and providing hope, as well as the necessary support systems, to those who need it most."
"We appreciate the support of Frank McCourt and all our partners to bring Hope Village to life. This community will serve as a model for the nation – prioritizing healing the wound instead of punishing it," said Fr. Greg Boyle, Founder of Homeboy Industries. "In this collaborative mission and commitment to Hope Village we focus on long term health and wellness of individuals and their families to make Los Angeles and our communities safer."
The Fr. Gregory Boyle Center for Radical Kinship will serve as the anchor of Hope Village, offering over 200 units of supportive and transitional housing, along with 35,000 square feet of space dedicated to essential services, including mental health care, substance use disorder treatment, job training and career development.
This multi-phase campus expansion will significantly increase Homeboy Industries' capacity to deliver its full ecosystem of support, including education, legal assistance, healthcare, and reentry services. The Center builds on recent momentum, including the relocation and growth of the Homeboy Art Academy. As part of Hope Village, the Art Academy will expand into a new 5,000-square-foot contemporary space, where hundreds will engage in innovative programming focused on healing, training, and creative expression across multiple art forms.
"The Fr. Gregory Boyle Center for Radical Kinship will connect with and complement the Hilda Solis Care First Village, and The California Endowment's Robert K. Ross Center for Hope and Healing, and other emerging developments to provide housing and services for thousands of people annually – with a goal of reducing the heavy burden on systems like Men's Central Jail. Through public-private partnership, we are investing and building a new paradigm in care first for those in need," said Homeboy Industries Co-CEOs Shirley Torres and Steve Delgado.
Frank McCourt, the founding donor of the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University, established in 2013, has made the McCourt School of Public Policy available to Homeboy to invest in this new paradigm. The McCourt School will work with Homeboy to guide research and help elevate their work to a national level.
"We look forward to collaborating with the Homeboy Network in a variety of ways, including hosting an annual convening aimed at sharing best practices on a national scale and providing opportunities for our students to engage in this important work," said Carole Roan Gresenz, dean of Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy.
Together with Homeboy Industries, McCourt Partners, led by President Jordan Lang, will help establish a fundraising platform to support the $100 million campaign, with funds directed toward Hope Village master planning, land acquisition, and development. In addition to the $10 million commitment, McCourt Partners will provide strategic thought partnership on marketing, real estate, and development expertise to bring the vision to life.
