Hon'ble Minister of State for Science & Technology Inaugurates the EFY Expo, 2011

NEW DELHI, February 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Mr. Ashwani Kumar, the Minister of States for Science & Technology, Planning and Parliamentary Affairs inaugurates the EFY Expo, 2011, the largest electronic exhibition of North India. Inaugurating the exhibition the hon'ble minister says that Government of India has taken a series of policy initiatives and programmes in the field of information and communication technologies for implementing the agenda of the Eleventh Plan i.e. inclusive growth.

The minister also says that the task force constituted by the Department of Information Technology to suggest measures to stimulate the growth of IT, ITES and the Electronics Hardware Manufacturing Industry has submitted its report. Government will take adequate measures on the basis of the report.

The demand for electronic hardware in the country will increase to $400 billion by 2020. This will lead to a demand and supply gap of electronics hardware. Government will encourage the domestic hardware manufacturer to meet this growing demand.

The electronic hardware has also the potential to contribute about 20% to the GDP by 2010. Besides, this industry can engage the huge number of skilled professionals that India is producing. Government will initiate conductive policy for that. Government has already identified 5 major initiatives for implementations i) Setting up National Electronic Mission, ii) Setting up a dedicated "Electronic Development Fund", iii) Creating policies for preferential access to "Manufactured-in-India" / Indian Products, electronic goods for all government procurements and procurement by Govt. Licensees. iv) Setting up a semiconductor Wafer Fabs. v) Encouraging manufacture of specific high priority electronic product lines in India by providing capital grant and creation of electronic manufacturing clusters

In the process of becoming a super power we must have to work towards strengthening the electronic industry so that it can play its role in a more significant way.
