Honduran President Porfirio Lobo promotes TPS registration
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, June 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The President of Honduras, Porfirio Lobo Sosa, called upon Hondurans who live in the United States to re-register in the 11th expansion of Temporary Protective Status (TPS 2013), taking advantage of the 4-week extension approved by the Government of the United States.

To re-register, TPS beneficiaries must submit a Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status, along with Form I-765, Document of Authorization of Employment, in any of the 11 Consulates that Honduras has in the U.S.
Furthermore, Hondurans residents in the United States must submit the form and make the respective corrections with the Office of Immigration and Citizenship, or USCIS (Oficina de Inmigración y Ciudadanía). Applicants who do not have the financial resources to undertake these procedures should fill out Form I-912, accompanied by a letter of explanation.
To apply for the extension, Hondurans should accompany their official documents with a note explaining why they missed the deadline for registration this past June 3rd.
President Lobo emphasized that the assistance provided by Honduran consular staff to request information and fill out forms is completely free of charge.
"I would like to send a cordial greeting to all Hondurans who live in the United States and call upon you to take advantage of this opportunity offered by TPS. The doors of our consulates will be open to assist you free of charge," said President Lobo.
President Lobo added: "Let us recall that the benefits of TPS include granting periods of residency, registration, payment of taxes, registration fees, certificates of good conduct, work permits, civic tests and the possibility of learning English in the United States."
Honduras has consulates in the following cities in the United States: Washington D.C.; Miami, Florida; Atlanta, Georgia; Houston, Texas; New York, NY; Boston, Massachusetts; Chicago, Illinois; New Orleans, Lousiana; Los Angeles, California; San Francisco, California and Phoenix, Arizona.
59% of the Hondurans reside in the southern part of the United States. The state with the largest population of Honduran immigrants is Florida, with 129,000, which accounts for 18%, followed by Texas with 103,000 Hondurans, representing 14% of the Honduran population residing in the U.S.
