HonorSociety.org Donates over $6,000 to Red Cross for Typhoon Relief

WASHINGTON, April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Shortly after Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines this past November, HonorSociety.org launched a campaign to fundraise for the relief efforts. To help with the rebuilding efforts, HonorSociety.org and its members made a combined donation of over $6,000 to the American Red Cross, benefitting the Typhoon Haiyan relief effort in the Philippines. 

Between November 3, 2013 and November 11, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan ripped through the island country, officially claiming over 6,300 lives and leaving behind a path of devastation. The tropical cyclone reached winds of 145 miles per hour, making it the strongest storm ever recorded at landfall, and one of the strongest typhoons ever recorded in terms of wind speed. Preliminary totals cited damage topping $1.5 billion (US dollars). It was the deadliest typhoon to ever hit the Philippines; over 1,000 people remain missing.

HonorSociety.org matched member donations dollar for dollar, allowing the organization to amass $6,800 towards the disaster's relief fund. The American Red Cross recognized HonorSociety.org and its members by presenting them with a plaque commemorating the organization's donation. Jane Goldman, Director of Corporate Partnerships at the American Red Cross, recited the plaque's message at the ceremony, which states "Your contribution has provided shelter, food, emotional support and relief supplies to families and communities, sending a message of comfort and hope to those in need."­­­

The American Red Cross is currently accepting donations for its disaster relief fund to help those affected by the natural disasters similar to the recent disaster  in the Philippines.
