TORONTO, July 8, 2014 /CNW/ - It was a chilling end for best friends Shahla Kara and Nabeela Barday in tonight's Season 2 premiere of THE AMAZING RACE CANADA. The pair, who reside in the Toronto-area, failed to complete the challenge in the flood training simulator at the Damage Control School of CFB Esquimalt in Victoria. They became the first team eliminated at the Pit Stop at Fisgard Lighthouse on the historic Fort Rodd Hill.

The best friends' hopes of staying in the race officially sank when they took a penalty while the chamber filled with frigid water. "We hope we did our families and our friends proud," said Shahla. "We're proud of ourselves and that's the most important thing."  "This was an incredibly unique Canadian experience," added Nabeela, "we're happy to have been a part of it."

In the Season 2 opener, 11 teams gathered at the foot of a glacier in Jasper National Park and made their way to Calgary. After an icy zip line at Winsport Canada Olympic Park, Teams made their way to Victoria on three separate flights. Once there, they encountered a skydiving challenge, were steeped in a traditional tea service challenge, then made their way to CFB Esquimalt naval base where they were put in a training room and subjected to a simulated below deck flood. Canada's National Women's Hockey Team members Natalie Spooner and Meaghan Mikkelson continued their win streak from Sochi 2014 and took the first leg of Season 2. Host Jon Montgomery greeted them at the Pit Stop with the Double Express Pass - one to use, and one to give to another team by the end of the fifth leg. The teammates also won two round trip tickets from Air Canada to any of their South American destinations, plus $2,000 on their Scotiabank Gold American Express Card. "You two are first," said Jon to his fellow gold medallists, "but you're gonna have to work wicked hard to stay there."
