Hospice Foundation of America Webinar Focuses on Adolescents and Life-Threatening Illness

WASHINGTON, July 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) will present a live, online webinar focusing on Adolescents and Life-Threatening Illness on Tuesday, July 15, from noon—1:30pm ET. Kenneth J. Doka, PhD, and Nancy Hogan, PhD, will discuss how the normal challenges of adolescence are impacted when a young person is facing a life-threatening illness. This webinar will address sensitivities necessary in caring for these adolescents as well as assisting their families and peers in coping with the illness and offering support.

"Popular movies like The Fault in Our Stars and the upcoming television series Red Band Society have brought popular attention to these issues," Doka said.  "Adolescents focus on developing independence, intimacy, and identity; the very nature of life-threatening illness deeply challenges these processes." The program will offer practical advice to professionals who work with young people, as well as look at how research challenges some common misperceptions about adolescents facing life-threatening illness.

Hospice Foundation of America webinars offer affordable, easily accessible information presented by some of the best-known names in the study of death, grief and loss, while also providing suggestions for hands-on strategies that can be applied in clinical practice. During the live program, participants have the opportunity to ask questions of presenters.
