MILFORD, Conn., March 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The SUBWAY® restaurant chain opened 2,714 new locations worldwide in 2013, providing about 27,000 new jobs through the brand's franchisees and continuing to bring healthier options to consumers. Included in the new locations were 39 hospital sites, bringing the total hospitals and health care facilities the brand is located in to 250 worldwide.

The SUBWAY® menu includes sandwiches and salads that are trans-fat free and low in saturated fat and cholesterol. Each six-inch sandwich, when made to recipe, has two servings of fresh vegetables.

The expansion of the SUBWAY® chain provides convenience for consumers looking for healthier options while grabbing a meal on-the-go. Among the 39 hospital locations where Subway restaurants opened in hospitals 2013 include:  Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Maryland; Kenzen Medical Center in Quito, ECU; and Kokelaben Dhirabhai Ambani in Mumbai, India. That trend of opening in hospital locations has continued in 2014, with the recent opening of a SUBWAY® restaurant in the Denver Health Medical Center at 777 Bannock Street in Denver, Colorado.
