PLANO, Texas, Aug. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, recently hosted the South Central Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISP) Roundup at its U.S. headquarters in Plano, Texas. All WISP and state broadband coordinators in the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kansas, and New Mexico were invited to attend a regional meeting to discuss fixed wireless broadband options in their respective states.
"The team from Huawei was very gracious in hosting the South Central WISP Roundup at their U.S. headquarters in Plano," said Rick Harnish, Executive Director of the WISP Association. "We hosted nearly 80 guests and 18 exhibitors during this very informative meeting."
"Huawei was thrilled to host the South Central WISP Roundup – not only to show off our headquarters but because we wanted the WISP community to know that we're committed to helping WISP operators meet their goals," said Bill Gerski, Vice President of Sales for Huawei. "As part of the meeting, we were able to showcase our Customer Experience Demonstration Center, which allowed us to show the WISP community how we can support both Wireless and Fiber hybrid solutions."
Discussion topics included how the Association is continuing to help members gain ground with the FCC and impending issues they face daily. There are over 800 members from the WISP Industry who have developed a grassroots community that advocates to the FCC and Congress for better rules and laws to protect their interests, even when there are setbacks.
"The FCC commissioners recently made a grave mistake in proceeding 13-49 which will set back rural broadband deployment and performance immensely," Harnish shared. "It is imperative to preserve current and future unlicensed spectrum with usable rules to insure consumers have competitive broadband providers to choose from. We must also preserve small businesses and their entrepreneurial spirit."
The Association ensures all WISP voices are heard. When those voices are heard, it is when progress can be made for the providers and consumers alike. Huawei was able to illustrate to the providers how the company can help with that progress including key products, solutions and services, and its willingness to form more partnerships.
