The poll demonstrates a strong consensus among the American public regarding Taiwan. Respondents across party lines, age groups, and demographics recognize Taiwan as a distinct and independent nation that is important to the United States. The support for official diplomatic recognition and a clear stance on Taiwan's defense underscores the desire for a more robust U.S. policy in support of Taiwan.
"These poll results send a clear message," said Dane Waters, President of Humanity for Freedom Foundation. "The American people stand firmly with Taiwan. It is time for the U.S. government to reflect this sentiment by strengthening our diplomatic and strategic relationship with Taiwan. We must abandon the policy of strategic ambiguity and formally recognize Taiwan. They are a democratic ally and a critical partner."
Paul Jacob, Board Member of Humanity for Freedom Foundation, added, "The numbers speak for themselves.
