Humans Will Live and Work in Space Within 25 Years

AUSTIN, Texas, June 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the New Worlds organization announced the next step toward its goal of developing the science, systems, tools, technologies, methods, and culture needed to build self-sustaining human communities beyond Earth. The organization will host the second annual New Worlds Conference and Symposium at the AT&T Executive Education & Conference Center in Austin, TX on November 4-5, 2016. The event will bring together innovators in technology, business and government to discuss the needs of future human colonies on the Moon, Mars and Free Space, and to discuss new ideas from the next generation who will lead the way.

The New Worlds Institute is dedicated to the growing conversation that moves beyond how we will explore space, but rather how we will settle space. The public sector, private sector, engineers, and scientists are focused on social, cultural, technological and civic infrastructure that must be integrated to make space settlement a reality within the next 25 years, and what life will look like once we arrive.

The two-day event will include the Space Settlement Symposium, a gathering of experts from NASA, the private sector, and academia presenting technologies and concepts that advance our capabilities to survive and thrive in space. Featuring a call for presentations of new concepts to be announced later this month, topics covered include: maintaining health and ensuring reproduction in space, the legal issues of who owns space, and the methods we will use to supply energy to these new settlements.

Another key component of the conference will feature speakers from various disciplines giving S.T.A.R. (Space Science, Technology, Art and Research) Talks on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead as we open the frontier.

The Cities in Space Competition helps the next generation understand that they are designing our future. The inaugural Space Cowboy Ball will feature live music and a steam punk retro-future theme to complement the event's goal of supporting New Worlds' S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) education initiatives. As a highlight of the event, the New Worlds Institute will present Space Cowboy awards to both a current visionary in the space community as well as a legend that helped pave the way to where we are today.
