Hundreds of UMHS Physicians Named to Best Doctors in America List
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Jan. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Every year, more and more patients seek care from the University of Michigan Health System because its doctors are among the nation's best -- a point proven by the hundreds of U-M physicians named to the 2011-12 Best Doctors in America list.
The new national list includes 433 U-M physicians -- up from 396 who were honored in the last listing two years ago – and places them among the top 5 percent of doctors in their specialties. U-M has more physicians recognized than any other health system in Michigan.
The list will be included in the upcoming issue of StyleLine Magazine.
The "Best Doctors" from U-M do not include about a dozen other physicians who have adjunct faculty positions because of their work with U-M residents at other hospitals in the area.
The list is compiled every two years by Boston-based Best Doctors, Inc., and based on an in-depth survey of more than 46,000 physicians in 43 specialties and more than 400 subspecialties of medicine. Each nominated physician was screened and asked to provide information about his or her practice.
In all, more than 1,600 faculty physicians treat patients at UMHS hospitals and health centers; all are U-M Medical School faculty members and belong to U-M's Faculty Group Practice.
The Best Doctors database of physicians is used by patients, families and other physicians to seek expert medical resources and guidance. Access to the full database is provided through employer-based benefit plans.
