Hundreds of workers converge on the Mayors house to shine light on his 1% agenda
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hundreds of hard-working Philadelphians take their message directly to Mayor Michael Nutter's house, which was "We rejected Mitt Romney's 1% agenda and now we stand against your Romney agenda."
"The hard-working men and women of this city deserve our respect," said DC 33 President Pete Matthews. "They continue to go to work, moving our great city forward, yet they are struggling to get by, like all Philadelphians. We need a mayor who will stand with the people and not the corporations."
"This mayor favors profits for corporations over the people of Philadelphia," added DC 47 President Cathy Scott. "Our communities are suffering under this 1% agenda. We stand today against the same policies that drove us to the polls last week to deny Mitt Romney the White House. Mayor Nutter needs to hear what we said at the polls and realize that we want a Philadelphia that is fair for all of its citizens."
Irene Wright remarked, "As a librarian, I have dedicated my life to building a better Philadelphia for all its people. Even after we came out in droves last week to re-elect Barack Obama, Mayor Nutter continues to promote policies that favor the few. We, the people, demand better for our city."
Mike Keough, a Water Treatment Crew Chief, had a message directly for Mayor Nutter. "Mayor, now is the time to stand up and do the right thing – stand for the people of Philadelphia, not just a few corporations."
AFSCME DC33 and DC47 were joined by community leaders to call on the mayor to support policies that benefit all Philadelphia's communities, not just the rich and powerful. Philadelphians have had enough with Mayor Nutter's 1% agenda.
"Now is the time for a unified Philadelphia, where all of its citizens are treated with respect and given the opportunity to grow," closed Matthews. "This tale of two cities promoted by this mayor must stop. Let's come together to build a better Philadelphia for all."
