The publication's award methodology combines the vehicle's overall score in the U.S. News Best Car Rankings, safety and reliability ratings, cargo volume and seating, and the availability of family-friendly features. The awards also factor in the consensus opinion of the automotive press. In each award category, the vehicle with the highest composite score is named the Best Car for Families in that class.
