iBeacon Micro-location Proximity Technology Featured at IMS2014

TAMPA, Fla., June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The IEEE MTT-S 2014 International Microwave Symposium (IMS) will welcome more than 575 exhibitors to the sold-out show floor opening on Tuesday, June 3 at 9:00 a.m. at the Tampa Convention Center. IMS2014 is the premier annual international meeting for technologists involved in all aspects of microwave theory and practice.

As part of the continued efforts to enrich the symposium experience for attendees, IMS will incorporate iBeacons, short-range, Bluetooth Smart transmitters that can send signals to nearby mobile devices, for the first time at an IEEE-sponsored conference. Upon entering the Tampa Convention Center, the iBeacon transmitters will trigger a message for users of the IMS mobile app for iOS or Android devices. Attendees can then use the iBeacons to guide themselves through the RF and microwave historical exhibit. When in proximity of selected MTT-S historical exhibit displays, the mobile app iBeacon interface will trigger descriptions of the artifact being viewed.

This micro-location proximity awareness can deliver a wide range of innovative solutions, such as precision indoor navigation, automatic ticketing and registration, guided exhibit experiences and location-relevant content and promotions. The IMS team, in collaboration with Handmade Interactive LLC, selected Radius Networks' RadBeacon proximity beacons with iBeacon technology for proximity engagement due to its use of open-source APIs and excellent technical support.
