NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine, Oct. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Iberdrola USA today announced that it has become a Champion of National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) 2014, joining a growing global effort among colleges, universities, businesses, government agencies, associations and non-profit organizations to promote online safety awareness.
Celebrated every October, National Cyber Security Awareness Month was created as a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure everyone has the resources needed to stay safer and more secure online. By becoming an official Champion, Iberdrola USA has strengthened its commitment to cyber security and online safety.
"As our energy networks get smarter and more connected, cyber attacks on utilities will become much more likely, and much more dangerous," said Keri Glitch, vice president, corporate security – Iberdrola USA. "We all have a responsibility to protect against cyber threats. No single individual, business or government is responsible for securing the Internet. It's up to all of us. We hope you'll join us in this shared responsibility during October and beyond."
Coordinated and led by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and the Department of Homeland Security, NCSAM has grown exponentially since its inception, reaching consumers, small and medium-sized businesses, corporations, educational institutions and young people across the nation and internationally. This year marks the 11th year of NCSAM.
As part of its NCSAM efforts, Iberdrola USA is planning a companywide information campaign that will reach nearly 5,000 employees in its subsidiary companies: Iberdrola Energy Holdings, Iberdrola Renewables, Central Maine Power, Maine Natural Gas, New York State Electric & Gas and Rochester Gas and Electric. The campaign supports the theme: Cyber Security – A Shared Responsibility, and includes a video featuring senior management, informational posters, wristbands and other employee communications pieces, scheduled for distribution throughout the month of October.
