ICAP Ocean Tomo to Sell Patent Portfolios Relating to Smart Phone Applications

CHICAGO, June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- ICAP Ocean Tomo, the intellectual property brokerage division of ICAP plc (IAP.L), is offering for sale two patent portfolios in the smart phone handset market. The first portfolio relates to touch screen and motion user interface and consists of 3 US-issued patents, 23 non-US patents, and 14 patent applications.  The second portfolio consists of one US-issued patent, five non-US patents, and one patent application and relates to haptic or tactile feedback on a touch screen within a smart phone.

The patents in these portfolios cover core technologies in the smart phone market segment and have early priority dates.  These patents have broad claims and broad coverage in key countries.  The first portfolio describes eight inventions within the touch screen and motion user interface control segment, including key functionality a user relies upon to interact with a handheld device.  The assets of the second portfolio describe methods, devices, and interfaces that operate using touch screen feedback.

The smart phone market is currently undergoing explosive growth with 54.7 million smart phones shipped globally in the first quarter of 2010, up 56.7 percent from the year-ago quarter.(1)  This growth is to continue for the foreseeable future as the importance of mobile computing and communications continues.
