CHICAGO, Aug. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- On Thursday, August 9th, Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger for District 16 visited the RidgePort Logistics Center ("RidgePort" or "the Park"), a more than 2,500-acre master-planned development. When complete, RidgePort will be the largest distribution center in the Midwest, located in Southwest Greater Chicago. National real estate investment firm Elion Partners (or "Elion") is the owner operator and developer of the park. Elion greeted the Congressman and offered Kinzinger a tour of the recently unveiled 1.5 million square foot distribution facility.
"I was very impressed by the developments at RidgePort Logistics Center and can already see the value it has and will continue to bring to our community," said Representative Adam Kinzinger (IL-16). "Thank you to Elion Partners for the tour, and for their impact here in Wilmington."
Elion acquired the land for the Park in two phases with the initial closing held in 2015. Today, 6.3 million square feet has been developed with an additional 800,000 planned for speculative development within the next year. The site is projected to provide 12,600 permanent jobs, 680 construction jobs during the development, and economic impacts are projected to reach $1.9 billion per year.
"We thank Congressman Kinzinger for his time touring the RidgePort project which anchors our portfolio of industrial assets," said Shlomo Khoudari, Managing Partner at Elion Partners. "The facility is well-positioned along the interstate and just a few miles south of the interchange that services the busiest inland container yards in the United States. We are also pleased to bring more employment opportunity to Will County and provide tailored solutions to increase quality of life for professional truck drivers."
As ecommerce becomes an increasingly common model for most consumer businesses, companies are under increased pressure to deliver products quickly, driving the need for at least 900,000 additional professional truck driver jobs in the next decade. In response to this trend, Elion has redesigned the RidgePort facility to focus on improving driver life while on the road. RidgePort contains unprecedented wellness amenities for drivers that few other distribution parks offer, including:
- An on-site full-service Petrol Travel Plaza;
- a 24-hour first-responder station;
- 40 acres of wetland and walk and bike paths;
- bike-sharing services;
- an on-site police department; and
- over 140-acres of planned commercial development including restaurant, retail and hotel amenities.
Located just 40 miles southwest of Chicago, RidgePort Logistics Center is strategically located in Will County, built between the I-55 interstate and BNSF railway. Tenants of the Center benefit from the rail-served partnership which runs from the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach to Chicago. RidgePort enables tenants to integrate with nearby intermodal exchanges as well as other rail service routes. Equipped with three miles of I-55 interstate frontage, the Center can service 27% of the U.S. population in less than a day's drive.
