Illinois Court Reporter Melanie Humphrey-Sonntag is Elected as President of the National Court Reporters Association
VIENNA, Va., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- At the 2010 Convention of the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) in Chicago, Melanie Humphrey-Sonntag was installed as the organization's president. Ms. Humphrey-Sonntag brings more than three decades of experience within the stenographic court reporting profession to her role as NCRA President. In addition to being a realtime reporter and equity owner of Sonntag Reporting Service, Ltd., in suburban Chicago, she has worked tirelessly as an advocate for the profession.
Ms. Humphrey-Sonntag is a staunch advocate for certification, professionalism, and continuing education within the court reporting profession, regularly delivering seminars and providing counsel to court reporting students, fellow reporters, vendors, and the public for nearly 20 years. Her service also includes participation on numerous boards and committees, including participation on NCRA's Future Group, nominating committee, and on the Council of the Academy of Professional Reporters. She likewise has served as a Trustee for the National Court Reporters Foundation (NCRF) and is proud to be recognized as an "NCRF Angel" for her financial contributions to the Foundation over many years.
A Wyoming native who now calls Wheaton, Illinois, her adopted hometown, Ms. Humphrey-Sonntag has worked as an official court reporter, a freelance court reporter, and as a firm owner in Wyoming, Colorado, and Illinois, having served as president of both the Wyoming and Colorado state associations of court reporters. She also competes in annual speed-writing competitions, placing 3rd in NCRA's contest on several occasions and winning the Colorado and Illinois contests multiple times.
Ms. Humphrey-Sonntag earned the Registered Diplomate Reporter and Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) credentials, and she also is a Fellow of the Academy of Professional Reporters (FAPR), one of the profession's highest achievements.
