SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Dec. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Women's March Chicago, Action Illinois and Women United Network will combine forces on January 20, 2018 to organize statewide Marches in Chicago, Springfield and Carbondale, Illinois in celebration of the first anniversary of the Women's Marches of 2017. The anniversary March will be a March on the Polls, encouraging all women and their allies to get involved in 2018's upcoming primary election and general election. Organizers are dedicated to ensuring that the year of the woman becomes the decade of the woman and beyond -- by encouraging a huge turnout of female voters.
Women's voices are being heard and our national community is responding to our need for a change in power structures that hold women back from being represented in equal numbers in positions of leadership across a broad spectrum of industries. The Women's Marches in Illinois on January 20th will bring together women and allies in support of women's rights including equal rights, equal pay, reproductive justice, affordable healthcare, affordable childcare, racial justice, voting rights, freedom from violence, LGBTQ+ rights, immigrant rights, fair wages, access for persons with disabilities, environmental protections, and other critical areas of focus.
We are proud to be able to bring women across the state of Illinois an opportunity to participate in a March close to home on the anniversary of the historic Women's Marches that were integral to the swell of grassroots activism seen across the country in the past year. We are one Illinois from downstate to Chicago and united in our sisterhood and activism for a better future for all women. These marches are organized in conjunction with 168 global actions during the Weekend of Women.
