IMS Core Market Grows 30 Percent in 4Q11, According to Exact Ventures

BURLINGAME, Calif., Feb. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In its recently released report, Exact Ventures found the IMS Core market grew more than 30 percent in the fourth quarter of 2011, both sequentially and year-over-year, as deployments and trials were converted into mainstream services, and as service providers continued to prepare for the inevitable transition to voice-over-LTE (VoLTE).

"IMS Core market growth is expected to accelerate almost 60 percent in 2012, as VoLTE deployments begin to affect the market," said Greg Collins, Founder and Principal Analyst at research firm Exact Ventures. "We expect VoLTE to have a more substantial impact on the IMS Core market beginning in 2013 and beyond, after VoLTE handsets have been on the market for several quarters," remarked Collins.

"IMS Core networks and applications can enable wireline operators to efficiently leverage a common core network for voice, video, and data services. For network operators with both wireline and wireless networks, IMS also can potentially unify the core network and applications across a variety of access networks. Thus far, however, there has been little true convergence of wireline and wireless core and application networks," Collins added.

In 4Q11, Huawei led the IMS Core market with more than 35 percent market share. Huawei's success continued to be based on massive IMS projects in China, its home market. Ericsson and Nokia Siemens each held almost 25 percent of the market, with Ericsson edging out Nokia Siemens for the second spot behind Huawei.
