India Partners Collaborates With Asian White Coffee and Broetje Orchards to Bring Clean Water and Food to Thousands In Southern India
EUGENE, Ore., Dec. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Partnership is truly the mission of India Partners, whose corporate sponsors helped to better the lives of thousands of individuals living in extreme poverty in India in 2011. This year, two notable corporate sponsors, Asian White Coffee and Broetje Orchards, helped to provide clean water and nutritious food to over 26,000 impoverished individuals in Southern India.
Jeff Evers, President of Asian White Coffee, collaborated with India Partners to install 13 water wells in 13 villages in India in the months of July and August 2011. Thanks to this partnership approximately 26,000 people now have access to clean drinking water in India. One water well can be installed for $155 USD, and each water well provides clean water to an entire village, approximately 500 families. India Partners has been installing water wells in rural villages since 2009, and since then 78 water wells have been installed in 78 villages.
Every year the workers at Broetje Orchards in Prescott, Washington, choose from a list of over 20 charities to receive proceeds from their annual cherry crop pickings. In 2010, Broetje Orchards awarded India Partners $14,000 from its annual cherry crop proceeds, helping to provide 100 Dalit school children, formerly known as "untouchables," in Andhra Pradesh, India, with one meal per day, five days per week, for 12 months, totaling 26,000 meals in 2010.
This month, Broetje Orchards will award India Partners $33,640 to help expand it's school lunch program, the Hungry Child Project, to include two additional schools in 2012. The three school lunch programs combined plan to provide 52,000 school lunches to Dalit students, whose only meal of the day could come from the Hungry Child Project.
"It is partners like Asian White Coffee and Broetje Orchards who help to make our work possible," says Brent Hample, President of India Partners. "Through the generosity of our donors, we can bring clean water and food to thousands of people in India."
Incorporated in 1994, India Partners has been fostering partnerships between U.S.-based businesses, organizations and individuals, and indigenous grassroots agencies in India for the last 17 years. Between 2010-2011, corporate gifts made up 9% of all donations to India Partners, just over $85,000.
