In this third-party research, Walker-Phillips aimed to assess, evaluate and document the clinical and financial effectiveness of the proprietary Paxit® system across long-term care facilities. Participating facilities exemplified varying levels of acuity and bed count throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Facility administrators, financial executives, Directors of Nursing, and staff nurses volunteered their time and information for the purposes of this study.

Highlights of the research include:

  • An average drug cost savings of approximately 11% after switching to the Paxit system.
  • Med pass time savings of 30% or more per med pass. An average of 30 minutes per cart, per med pass.
  • Medication administration errors decreased 20% after implementing the Paxit system.
  • 100% of the facilities surveyed felt the overall med pass experience became more relaxed and person-centered by using the Paxit system.

"This is an incredible breakthrough for long-term care residents and those who commit their lives to caring for these individuals," said Michael Bronfein, Chairman and CEO of Remedi SeniorCare®. "We always knew the Paxit system resulted in immense benefits for the facility and the resident, but to be able to share this research with our partners means we're setting the facility up for future success – major financial, operational, and care-related successes. There's just nothing like it in the world."

The Paxit automated dispensing system delivers a 24-hour cycle of unit-dose medications in secure, easy to open bags with one bag per resident, per medication administration time. The system was created in 2007 by Remedi SeniorCare and a team of nurses who served as the leading influencers in the creation of this robotic fulfillment system.
