An HRA is sponsored by an employer and provides reimbursement to an employee who has paid for a qualified out-of-pocket medical expense. Eligible expenses include deductibles, coinsurance, and pharmacy costs. It isn't a health plan, but rather works in conjunction to lessen the financial burden of employees who have to pay for portions of their health care out of pocket. Employers can designate a specific dollar amount to credit each employee's account, either on a monthly or annual basis.
