NEW YORK, Oct. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Infinite Books today announced it will publish Danielle Crittenden's memoir Dispatches From Grief: A Mother's Journey Through the Unthinkable, a searing exploration of loss that transcends conventional narratives of bereavement.
The memoir traces Crittenden's journey from the February morning her daughter Miranda was found dead in her Brooklyn apartment through the ancient rituals of mourning to the slow reconstruction of meaning. With a cartographer's precision, she maps the landscape of sudden loss, weaving intimate family moments with universal meditations on mortality, parenthood, and the search for grace amid catastrophe.
"Danielle's memoir represents exactly the kinds of books we seek to publish: those that illuminate the most profound human experiences with courage and artistry. As a father to a young daughter, I confess that I wept through much of the editing process, as has everyone on our team who has encountered this manuscript," said Jimmy Soni, Editor in Chief of Infinite Books. "Danielle writes with such luminous honesty about continuing to live after devastating loss and offers a lifeline for anyone navigating their own sorrow."
"I finished Danielle's memoir in a single sitting, and I haven't been quite the same since," said Dylan O'Sullivan, Senior Editor of Infinite Books. "Never before have I read such a raw yet forensic examination of loss, in equal parts harrowing and beautiful. It not only leaves you with a new understanding of grief, but a renewed sense of gratitude for all those you hold dear, the departed and the living. This is a Mount Rushmore book on the subject of grief."
"This is a book no one can ever imagine writing. When Miranda died, I was midway through a sequel to my first novel. Then everything simply came to a halt," said Danielle Crittenden. "I'd experienced grief before when parents and close friends died. Nothing prepared me for the relentless, excruciating pain of losing a child. I went from being a cheerful, optimistic person to a suicidal, howling figure writhing on my bathroom floor. There is no antidote for this kind of grief – and contrary to popular belief, there are no tidy 'stages' to get through to some future 'acceptance.' Your life has been hit by a meteor. I began writing Dispatches to try to make sense of the senseless. I hope the finished work will lend voice to others suffering our wretched fate – and give those who want to help and console us a better understanding of what we're enduring."
"We're honored to bring Danielle's extraordinary testimony to readers," said Jim O'Shaughnessy, Executive Chairman of Infinite Books. "This memoir accomplishes what only the finest literature can: it transforms private experience into shared human understanding. Danielle has crafted a book that will accompany those walking through their own valleys."
Jay Mandel of WME represented Crittenden in the deal. Dispatches From Grief is scheduled for publication in Spring 2026 and will be available in hardcover, e-book, and audiobook formats.
