Information Update - Cough & Cold Products Recalled Due to Defective Caps: May Cause Serious Harm to Children
OTTAWA, Jan. 31, 2013 /CNW/ - Health Canada is advising Canadians that Novartis Consumer Health Canada Inc. is conducting a voluntary recall of 17 products (see chart below) as the child resistant mechanism of the bottle cap can fail.
As a result, children may be able to open the bottle and ingest the product. The ingredients of the affected products may be harmful to children and as such, ingestion of these products may cause serious adverse health consequences, including death.
Health Canada has not received any adverse reactions regarding the defective cap issue. However, as a precautionary measure, Novartis Consumer Health Canada Inc. is voluntarily recalling these 17 products to help ensure all affected products are removed from the Canadian market.
Novartis Consumer Health Canada Inc. is requesting that retailers immediately stop sale of these products and return them to the company. The company has confirmed the products were distributed across Canada.
Health Canada is monitoring the recall by Novartis Consumer Health Canada Inc. Should new information be identified, Health Canada will provide an update to Canadians.
