SEATTLE, April 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Community members donate household items to those displaced in Tukwila house fires in early March.
Five families in Tukwila were displaced during the month of March due to house fires in the area. One home and one four-unit apartment complex caught fire and destroyed the homes. Five families occupied the living quarters and currently have nothing after the fires. Two families have since found homes, while three families are still searching for a place to go.
Inspirus Credit Union is a public drop off location for furniture and household items for the families. If you are interested in donating to the families, bring your donations to: 5200 Southcenter Blvd., Tukwila, WA 98188.
The families are in need of everything for their homes, from basic household items to furniture, including:
- Bathroom towels
- Kitchenware such as dishes, pots; and pans
Most of the families affected by the fires are refugees, working to establish a new life for their family in the United States. "Often times, when families come here, they are in need, but once they get established, the families are eager to volunteer and help other refugee families," said Katrina Dohn, founder of Tukwila's non-profit children's clothing bank. "It is truly a joy to see things come full-circle, from receiving help to giving of their time and possessions to help others in need."
Dohn is working with the community to help these families find new homes and adapt to their new environment. Dohn works with the children of these families and sees first-hand how appreciative they are for the opportunity to build their lives in the United States. Dohn said, "They are hard-working students who are thankful for the opportunity they have to get an education and have dreams for their futures."
