NEW YORK, April 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- (http://www.myprgenie.com) -- SourceMedia announced today that Carrie Burns has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of Insurance Networking News (INN), the leading information resource for insurance executives overseeing information technology. As Editor-in-Chief, Burns is responsible for expanding the group's digital, print, research and social media initiatives.
"Carrie is an expert in both the insurance business and information technology -- a unique blend that enables her to provide targeted, valuable content to INN readers across all our editorial platforms," said John McCormick, editorial director for SourceMedia's Professional Services and Technology Groups.
With Burns as Editor, INN won two American Society of Business Publication Editors awards. She was also a member of editorial teams that received an Eddie gold award from Folio and a TABBIE editorial excellence award from the Trade Association Business Publications International.
"It's an exciting, innovative time for the insurance industry," said Burns. "I'm looking forward to expanding the INN brand through a wide range of media, including video, targeted digital offerings and online and live events."
Burns fills the position vacated by Patricia Speer, who is stepping down as Editor-in-Chief. Speer will continue as a consultant to INN, assisting with INNewscast programming, serving as an editorial advisor, and participating in new product development.
Burns' promotion follows a six-year tenure on INN's editorial team. She has also been Editor of Health Data Management, another SourceMedia brand, and Managing Editor of Scranton Gillette Communications' GPN magazine.
"Carrie is a major reason INN is a leader in both its editorial coverage and its use of digital media," said Rob Whitaker, SVP and Group Publisher. "I'm confident that, with Carrie as Editor-in-Chief, INN will continue to be the pace-setter."
INN also announced today that Chris McMahon will join as Senior Editor. McMahon brings a background in digital content creation, magazine writing and editing, and radio broadcasting. He was senior editor and online editor at Futures magazine, and launched a digital daily for international currency traders sponsored by CME Group.
