Government Technology magazine has named Wanda Gibson, CTO and director of the Department of Information Technology (DIT) for Fairfax County, Va., and Bill Hobgood, Richmond, Va.'s IT department project manager for public safety, to its annual list of the Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers for 2010. In addition, the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government, has honored the Amarillo, Texas Emergency Communications Center with a Best of Texas Award for Project Excellence.

Gibson oversees the use of technology to serve Fairfax County's one million residents and has led the county to recognition at the state and national level for advanced IT programs and technology innovation. Credited with "an undeniable dedication to government IT," Gibson is committed to deploying "the tools needed to transform infrastructure."  Under Gibson's leadership, Fairfax County selected Intergraph's integrated public safety and security software in 2007 for effective and efficient emergency incident response throughout the U.S. capital region.

In the city of Richmond, Hobgood's innovative efforts have directly contributed to a two- to three-minute reduction in emergency response times, saving precious time and lives. Richmond's two-year External Alarm Interface Exchange project, which was established and led by Hobgood, used the city's existing Intergraph public safety and security software and  its information exchange capability to directly connect with residential and commercial security companies.  The interface effectively eliminated more than 8,250 telephone calls from alarm monitoring companies, resulting in more efficient utilization of 9-1-1 call-taker resources in the public safety answering point.  The program resulted in a new American National Standard that can be easily deployed by all CAD and central station alarm monitoring providers to promote effective and efficient emergency incident response.

The Center for Digital Government recognized the Amarillo Emergency Communications Center (AECC) and the city of Amarillo for their improved service to the community as a result of consolidating their police, fire and EMS call-taking and dispatching functions to one location, thereby better coordinating response to major events.  Personnel at the AECC rely on Intergraph's public safety and security incident management, mobile and reporting software for streamlined and effective emergency response.
