Internationally Acclaimed Architecture Firm MAD Garners "Best Design Concept" for 8600 Wilshire Project at 45th Annual Los Angeles Architectural Awards
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., June 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- 8600 Wilshire, a luxury residential project in Beverly Hills, has been named "Best Design Concept" at the Los Angeles Business Council's 45th Annual Los Angeles Architectural Awards. The project, designed by global architecture firm MAD, and led by its founding partner Ma Yansong, is the firm's first residential design in the United States.
For 8600 Wilshire, MAD considers "The possibility of a new model for West Coast vernacular amid the sprawling density of Los Angeles, and purposes a harmonious architectural space of human experience by placing residents in the spiritual landscape of nature."
8600 Wilshire combines distinctive architecture with a true sense of place, offering 18 luxurious and unique residences atop a prime retail podium. Incandescent crystalline villas, shaded by a canopy of trees, will contour the Beverly Hills skyline, while a water-efficient "living wall" of native and drought-tolerant succulents and vines will create a distinctive streetscape along Wilshire Boulevard. An elevated courtyard provides a private sanctuary for residents of this community. At its center, an oculus opens to the lobby below, drawing in the sky and natural light from above. The project demonstrates how sustainable architecture and technology can support water and energy conservation in the local community.
In addition to MAD's signature conceptual design, the project also brings together several of the industry's top creative forces including Rottet Studio for interiors, Gruen Associates as the executive architect and Palisades as the owner and developer.
